The Racial Awakening: When Black Lives Matter

There’s a lot of chaos going around and I am not sure how to process it all. On top of COVID-19, there is a racial awakening. Yes, I’d like to call it that, racial awakening. The world is just now noticing that Black people are being murdered and oppressed on a daily basis for no other reason than the color of their skin, our skin, my skin. The world is just now noticing what my people have been trying to convey to everyone for centuries. And the world is protesting about it. All of this for a color. All of this for rumors about a color. All of this because of fear and hatred about a color. A color. So now around the world people of color and colorless people are unleashing their true beliefs about humanity and power. My mind is racing with all of these questions. Why do Black people have to provide evidence of innocence to validate an unjust death? Why do we need a video recording, witnesses, a background check, and proof of cooperation to be seen as human? We need all of this just to prove that we deserve to live?

I saw on the news that a Black man was jogging outside in broad daylight when he was followed by a truck and shot to death by two white men. His name was Ahmaud Arbery. News reporters then questioned if the dead man had a weapon. So a human was murdered and the concern was whether or not he himself had a gun? What? The proof of pure hatred is not what sparked these protests. What’s really going on is that people clearly see that there is absolutely no excuse to be fabricated in order to justify the abuse of Black bodies. This is not only an American issue. This is a global issue. Black people do not only reside in the United States obviously. As more and more injustice events leak, where for the first time Black people are viewed as innocent, now people want to wake up. Now police officers are looking more suspicious than ever. Racial discrimination has been going on forever. Police and Black relations have never been anything but brutal. Everyone knows that Black people have been treated like shit. The only difference now is people are starting to question the response, “Well what did they do to deserve it”.
